Watershed Executive Director, Duncan Hughes, helped a group of 20 Girl Scouts get up close and personal with native mussels. His son, 8 year old Charles Hughes, discovered the mussels in a local creek in 2012 while with his father, Duncan Hughes, sampling water for bacteria. This was the first mussel sighting in the Upper Chattahoochee above Lake Lanier in many decades. This learning opportunity helped the girl scout troop earn their aquaculture badges.
