Who we are
The Mission of the Soque River Watershed Association is to work together with individuals and organizations to protect and restore Habersham County’s Soque River, its tributaries and watershed.
Our projects and initiatives prevent over 5,500 tons of sediment from entering the Soque each year and have resulted in the entire Soque Watershed being removed from the Georgia EPD's list of impaired waters for fecal coliform. Our work focuses on providing resources and funding to directly improve water quality in the Soque and its tributaries. We also strive to help educate others about the amazing resource that begins and ends in Habersham County.

Herping Trip: Snakes and Salamanders, oh my! -
Saturday, June 26th, 2021
Please join SRWA and Dr. Carlos Camp, Professor of Biology at Piedmont University and SRWA Board member, for a herpetology (amphibian and reptile) hike. This hike will take place from the Byron Reece Memorial trailhead (known as the most popular approach to Blood Mountain) and include looking for rattlesnakes as well as many other herps, so be prepared! While we will not be ascending Blood Mountain, the terrain is still steep and it could be quite hot in late June. Plan to bring sufficient food and water and wear appropriate attire, including closed toed shoes.
Where: The Byron Reece Memorial Trailhead off US19/129. We will be walking the Byron Reece trail for about 0.8 mi to the junction with the Appalachian Trail.
When: 8:30 AM, finished by about 1PM, Saturday, June 26th
Distance & Difficulty: ~2 miles round trip, strenuous terrain, but with many stops to look around!
Please RSVP to srwa@soque.org
